Can you believe Christmas is just around the corner? I am already brainstorming fun Christmas party themes to make this years holiday party extra memorable. There are so many fun ways to celebrate with decorations, food, activities and more. In this post I am sharing some of my favorite themes and ideas for how you can throw a fun party.
Winter wonderland, cookie exchanges, gingerbread house decorating, there are so many fun ways to celebrate the holidays. I love throwing a themed Christmas party to bring family and friends together and it's a great excuse to plan a fun gathering.
Cookie Exchange
A classic cookie exchange party is such a fun way to celebrate. Each guest can bring in a batch of their favorite Christmas cookies to exchange with each other. Everyone will go home with a variety of different sweets to enjoy.
- I recommend each guest bring at least 1 dozen cookies or more depending on the number of guests.
- Have recipe cards for guests to share their recipes.
- Make sure to have cookies tins or boxes so everyone can take the cookies home.
- If you wanted to include an activity, you could have pre-made sugar cookies that each guest can decorate with frosting and sprinkles.
Supplies:
Christmas Tea Party
A Christmas tea party is fun for a daytime gathering. Picture a table filled with festive treats like mini sandwiches, scones with cranberry jam, and gingerbread cookies.
You can pair your treats with different flavored teas like peppermint or even some holiday-themed mimosas.
Have a Christmas centerpiece with candles or twinkling lights and of course a holiday tea set.
Supplies:
Christmas Game Night
Christmas game night is the perfect way to get everyone in the holiday spirit. Have your guests wear holiday sweaters or even Christmas pajamas for a cozy night in. You could play games like
- Christmas charades
- Win loose or draw
- Christmas trivia
- Classic board games like Monopoly, Clue, or Life.
Supplies:
Christmas Elf
A Christmas elf theme could be so much fun. Give your guests an elf hat once they arrive to really get in the spirit. A few fun ideas include:
- Since this is an elf theme I like to put different elves all around the party. By the food, in a chair, on the Christmas tree, or any other places you like.
- I love decorating with candy canes and red and white stripes for a whimsical feel.
- Twinkling lights and bowls of ornaments as decoration.
- If you really want to get into the theme, you could serve some mini elf-sized food like little sandwiches, mini marshmallows, or tiny sugar cookies.
- Have an elf training game, who can wrap presents the fastest.
Supplies:
Christmas Karaoke
Rock out to your favorite holiday tunes by hosting a karaoke party. Set up a cozy stage with lights and a microphone. You could have prizes for the best performances.
- Create a list of Christmas classics and new pop songs.
- Offer prizes for things like "best performance" or "best outfit".
- Have holiday duets where friends can sing together.
Supplies:
Polar Express
Pj's and the Polar Express party is a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season. Imagine everyone all cozy in the pajamas and ready to watch the Polar Express. Hand out golden tickets at the door. Serve some hot chocolate and maybe a little cookie station. This is such a fun theme for all ages.
- Hand out golden tickets as guests arrive.
- Play the Polar Express either in the background or for everyone to watch.
- Decorate with trains and bells.
- Have a hot chocolate station with marshmallows, candy canes, and whipped cream.
Supplies:
Gingerbread House
Decorating gingerbread houses is a fun theme for both kids and adults. A sweet, colorful, fun party idea to let your creative side show.
- Make it easy with pre-built gingerbread houses.
- Have bowls with different candies, sprinkles, and icing.
- I recommend using plastic, disposable table clothes to help make clean-up a breeze.
- Have some prizes for categories like the prettiest house, the most colorful house, and more.
Supplies:
Gift Wrapping Party
I love hosting gift wrapping parties because it's fun and practical. It's the perfect way to tackle all of your wrapping while hanging out with friends. Set up a wrapping station with gift paper, ribbons, and tissue paper so that everyone can wrap and share tips and ideas.
- Make a gift wrapping station with tags, paper, scissors, tape, and gift bags.
- Provide holiday treats like apple cider, hot chocolate, and cookies.
- Play Christmas music in the background.
- Have a bow tying lesson.
Ugly Sweater
I love an ugly sweater party to bring out the festive fun in everyone. This Christmas party theme is all about fun and being silly.
- Make sure to include "come in your best ugly sweater" on your party invitations.
- Have a contest for the silliest sweater.
- Include some photo areas so that guests can take funny pictures showing off their sweaters.
- Don't forget to include some fun food and drinks.
Supplies:
White Elephant
One of my favorite things about white elephant parties is to see the creative, funny gifts people bring. There is nothing better than sharing laughs and a friendly competition for the best gift. So fun!
- You could set a present theme, like "silly gadgets".
- Give a prize for the best gift, or most stolen gift.
- Be sure to have some holiday music in the background.
Christmas Movie Marathon
Snuggle up at home and host a Christmas movie marathon. There are so many wonderful Christmas movies to choose including some of my personal favorites like Christmas Vacation, Elf, and The Grinch.
- Get a selection of different Christmas themed movies.
- Set up a snack station including popcorn, candy, and Christmas treats.
- Make sure to have comfortable seating for your guests. You could even include blankets and pillows.
- Dim the lights and enjoy Christmas string lights for your lighting.
Supplies:
White Christmas
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas party this year. Transform your party venue into a white, winter wonderland.
- Ask guests to wear white or silver.
- Decorate using fake snow, white and silver Christmas decor, and white lights.
- Serve white themed food like sugar cookies, eggnog, and more.
Supplies:
Blue Christmas
Try throwing an Elvis inspired, Blue Christmas, themed party. Use cool, winter blues to really set this party apart. A unique twist on a traditional party.
- Use blues, golds, and silver to decorate your party.
- Serve blue themed food.
- Make sure to include Elvis' "Blue Christmas" on your playlist.
Christmas Luau
Bring the beach to Christmas with a luau themed party. You can use elements of a Christmas in July party for this theme. There are so many ways to bring a little bit of Hawaii to your Christmas party including:
- Decorate with palm trees, pineapples, and hibiscus flowers.
- Encourage guests to wear Hawaiian shirts, leis, and even a santa hat.
- Serve fun, tropical cocktails with a Christmas twist.
- Include some fun activities like the limbo or hula dance.
Supplies:
Whether you are dreaming of a wintery white Christmas or even a tropical luau, there is a Christmas party theme to make your party unforgettable. The right theme can take your party from ordinary to a truly special holiday party. Pick a theme that feels right for you and your guests and get ready to spread some holiday cheer!
