I've made these turkey pretzel rods for years, especially during collage since our mascot is a turkey. They are easy, fun, and perfect for Thanksgiving!
I am a proud graduate of Virginia Tech and our mascot is a turkey, so naturally I love turkeys all year round. These turkey pretzel rods were always a huge hit at tailgates and now I make them for Thanksgiving.
Why you will love these turkey treats
Simple - These are easy to make with just a few ingredients. A fun activity to let your kids help make.
Cute - Not only are these delicious, they make a cute gift or even centerpiece of the kids table.
Turkey pretzel rods ingredients
- Pretzel rods
- Fudge striped cookies
- Chocolate almond bark
- Candy corn
- Reeces Pieces
- Candy eyes
- Red candy melts
How to make turkey pretzels
Step one: Lay out a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper.
Step two: Take 12 fudge stripe cookies and place them striped side down and at least 2 inches apart on the prepared surface.
Step three: Put 8 ounces of chocolate almond bark into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 1 minute, stir, and then heat in 15-second increments until melted. Place a piping bag into a tall glass. Pour the melted chocolate into the piping bag.
Step four: Dip a pretzel rod into the piping bag full of chocolate, and allow the excess to drip off. Place the dipped pretzel rod onto a fudge stripe cookie. Repeat the process with the remaining pretzels.
Step five: Take the piping bag filled with the remaining melted chocolate and cut a small hole in the tip. Use the chocolate as glue to place your candy corn in a half-moon pattern on the fudge stripe cookie to create the effect of the turkey’s feathers.
Step six: Carefully cut the orange Reese’s Pieces in half. Place the candy eyes and half of an orange Reese’s Pieces vertically for the nose using the chocolate as glue.
Step seven: Melt ¼ cup of red candy melts according to the package. Place the melted candy into another piping bag. Cut a small hole for the tip and pipe the turkey’s wattle.
Step eight: Let the turkey pretzels dry for at least 30 minutes. You can also place them in the fridge for quicker drying time.
Recipe tips
- If you don't have chocolate almond bark, you can substitute with chocolate chips.
- I like to set up an assembly line to help make the process easier.
