I love this time of year when the air is crisp, the pumpkins are out, and all of the fun holiday treats.
Chocolate haystacks have been around for as long as I can remember. I make them all year long because they are so fast and simple. In this recipe I am customizing them with festive Halloween sprinkles.

Halloween haystacks ingredients
- Chocolate chips - I like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips but you can substitute with milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips.
- Butterscotch chips - You will use one cup of butterscotch chips.
- Chow mein noodles - Chow mein noodles can typically be found in the international aisle of the grocery store.
- Sprinkles - Use your favorite Halloween sprinkles.
How to make chocolate Halloween haystacks

Step one: Place chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals until the chips completely melt.
Step two: Pour in the chow mein noodles and stir to completely cover.
Step three: Spoon the mixture on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Top with sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.
Step four: Let the haystacks rest until hardened.
Recipe tips
- Make sure to watch the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips when melting. You don't want it to burn.
- You could also melt the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips using a double boiler.
- If you want the haystacks to set faster, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator.
